Product Review: Laneige Hydra Solution Cream

At a Glance:
Price: RM160 (approx. US$51.61)
Weight: 50ml / 1.7 Fl. Oz.
Made in: Korea
Likes: Absorbs into skin quickly, brightens skin, hygienic packaging - tub is sealed when new and spatula is included in box
Gripes: Not moisturizing enough, leaves a film on the skin
Repurchase: No

Ingredients:

Product Description:

Hydra Energy solution for crystal clear skin.
- Enhances hydra vitalizing function and help your skin look more radiant with refresh and soft texture.- Brings more vibrant and smooth skin look to dull and dry complexion- Keeps well balance of richness and refreshment for combination or oily yet dry skin type.Combination of abundant ionized-minerals of Snow Water and marine extracts leaves super long lasting hydration from deep inside of skin

Texture & Scent:

This cream is rather thick, but surprisingly it sinks into the sink quickly. I find that this cream leaves a film on my skin though, and it doesn't disappear until I wash it off! >.<

This cream has a floral scent which I'm not crazy about, but thankfully it dissipates quickly so its no biggie.

Packaging:

I have to give props to Laneige for their hygienic packaging. The picture above shows how it's sealed to ensure freshness when new :)

Once you remove the seal, there is another plastic cap typical of moisturizers in tubs:

I like how a plastic spatula is included as well - God knows it should be made a law or something for skin care companies to provide a spatula for tub products! :D

This night cream comes in a pretty white box:

Price & Availability:
This moisturizer is priced at RM160, and is available at all Laneige counters.

My $0.02:

I got suckered into trying this night cream (along with the Water Sleeping Pack) one faithful day eons ago last year. The girl at the counter was SO NICE and helpful without being pushy, so all of us bought from her! :D This goes to show that good service really brings in the sales, as opposed to being pushy and obnoxious! :D

I've had high hopes for this product due to its hydrating claims. My skin gets dehydrated as the assignment due date draws nearer and I totally neglected my skin then when I'm stressed, so I was really counting on this to restore moisture to my face. Super long lasting hydration? I'm sold!

Did this live up to its claim though? Unfortunately it did not for me :(

Its alright as a basic moisturizer, but definitely not moisturizing enough if your skin is dehydrated like mine was. I also didn't like how it leaves a film on my skin that doesn't gets absorbed until I wash it off :(

All is not lost though - I noticed that this really does brighten up my complexion in the morning when I wake up. Also, I'm loving how hygienic the tub is when new - it is sealed, and also you get a spatula in your box! :)

All in all I think that this moisturizer is probably suited for people with normal to slightly oily skin. Since I have dry skin, I will not repurchase this.

Have you tried this night cream out before? What is your favourite moisturizer? :D

Product Review: Nivea Fruity Shine in Pink Guava

Weight: 4.8g
Made in: Thailand
Likes: Moisturizing, lovely color, affordable.
Gripes: Funny taste

Repurchase: Yes!

Ingredients:

Product Description

  • Delights young delicate lips with fruity flavour and smoothing, long lasting care
  • Naturally enhances your lips with shimmering pigments and a soft glossy colour
  • Contains SPF10, protection against UVA and UVB rays
Skin compatibility dermatologically approved.

Pigmentation & Color:

This lip balm gives a very light hint of pink to the lips. Although it is shimmery when swatched, it doesn't really appear that way on the lips! I also like how it makes the lips look smooth and glossy! :)

Swatch:

And on my lips (left is bare):

Texture & Scent:
This lip balm slicks on smoothly, but its not too oily until it slides right off your mouth. I personally think that this is perfect under lipsticks because it provides a nice, smooth layer as a base for the lipstick! :)

This has a wonderful fruity scent that I love, but it tastes abit weird! >.<

Packaging:

The lipbalm comes in the usual plastic twist-up tube with a pull-off cap. You get slightly lesser than 1.5 inches of product with each tube:

And this is how its packaging looks like:

Time Test:
One application lasts me the entire day - I'm super amazed! :D

Price & Availability:
This lip balm is priced at RM7.90, and is available at most major pharmacies such as Watsons and Guardian! :)

My $0.02:

I'm super tardy when it comes to product reviews (I know right!!)! This is part of my birthday present LAST YEAR from my girl Plue! Kakaka! Ok time to remedy that now... as you all can tell, I have been good for the past few weeks so lets keep it that way! :D

I'm truly thankful to Plue for gifting this to me because I would never try this out for myself! I vividly remember being forced to use tubes after tubes of the old, horrid Nivea lipbalm as a child with chapped, bleedy lips, and I would never have picked this one up myself if I were not given it because believe it or not, I can still TASTE the old horrid one in my mouth until today!! Bleurgh! >.<

Before applying this to my lips I gave it a whiff, and am immediately relieved to not detect any trace of the old scent. And it just keeps on getting better after that! I slicked it on and am pleasantly surprised by its texture. Its SO COMFORTABLE to wear without that heavy, oily feel on the lips and oh, the fruity scent doesn't hurt either. I also love how this gives a hint of color to my lips, nothing too bright or scary so it's perfect for those no-makeup days! :)

The only thing I didn't like about this lipbalm is that it does have a weird taste, but nothing too terrible so I'm more than willing to overlook this.

At this affordable price, I'd say that its really all-round, amazing lipbalm, and I'll definitely repurchase when I run out! :D

Product Review: St. Ives Daily Hydrating Vitamin E Body Lotion

At a Glance:
Price: RM14.80 (approx. US$4.77)
Weight: 266ml / 9 Fl. Oz.
Made in: USA
Likes: Absorbs into the skin quickly, does not leave a sticky residue, lovely scent, affordable
Gripes: Not moisturizing enough for very dry areas
Availability: Watsons, Guardian, Amazon.com
Repurchase: Maybe

Ingredients:

Product Description:

MADE WITH NATURAL INGREDIENTS
Hypo-allergenic
Packed with the powerful antioxidants of Vitamin E, this formula provides immediate moisture, while helping to protect against future dry skin. Apply daily to maintain hydrated skin that looks and feels soft, smooth and healthy
  • Formulated without Parabens or Phthalates
  • Not tested on animals
  • Does not contain animal ingredients

Texture & Scent:

This body lotion has a rather light texture, so it spreads easily unto your skin. It absorbs into the skin really quickly too!! :D

This has a wonderful fresh scent that I really like! :D

Packaging:

This body lotion comes in a plastic squeeze tube with a flip-top cap. I'm a huge fan of this kind of packaging for body lotions because it's simply much easier to squeeze a tube than a bottle! Plus, this packaging also means that there is always product at the bottom so dispensing it is much easier (especially when its running low) than the regular lotions in bottles! :)

I would expect a body lotion to have a bigger dispensing hole, but since this lotion is quite runny this works too:

Price & Availability:
This lotion is priced at RM14.80. There is a bigger 621ml pump bottle available, and that retails for RM25.80. This lotion is available at most Watsons and Guardian outlets. Girls in the US can purchase this off Amazon! :)

My $0.02:

St. Ives have always been a brand that flew under my radar for some reason! The one and only product I've tried from this brand is the discontinued Cucumber & Elastin Eye Stress Gel I reviewed almost four years ago! Lol! This is why we beauty bloggers love PRs - they really provide us with products that we won't otherwise try or discover ourselves! :)

I was given this body lotion (along with the Oatmeal one, which I will save for another review) to try out. The first thing that captivated me was its scent - it's so fresh and lovely! Hehehe!! :D

I love how non-sticky this lotion is and also the fact that it sinks into the skin really quickly. I'm not fussed about either, but some of you out there will be glad to know that this does not contain Parabens nor animal ingredients.

This body lotion moisturizes ok for the most part, but I find this not moisturizing enough for my parched shins. Since I'm in an air-conditioned place for most part of the day I tend to gravitate towards richer moisturizers to keep my skin as hydrated as possible, especially at night. That being said, I may repurchase to use it at work since it is non-sticky and smells lovely! ;)

What is your favourite body lotion? Have you tried this one before? :D

Jenn Asks: Do you wash your brushes regularly? :D

I'll be the first to admit... I'm rather tardy when it comes to cleaning my brushes. I know its no excuse, but since I do not use liquid products I usually stretch my brushes for several applications before I wash them =X

It's a bad habit that I'm really trying to break (honest!!) - so nowadays I have a spot cleaner on my dresser to clean my brushes with after every use. I use the MAC Brush Cleanser because it's fast drying and as you can see in the pictures above, it really works to clean all the colored bits off my brushes - my white brushes are now well, white again! Hehehe! :D

What about you? Do you wash your brushes regularly? Fess up! :D

Receive Fabulous Finds in your mailbox every month! :D

Fancy receiving a pretty pink box filled with surprises every month? Fabulous Finds may just be for you! :)

Fabulous Finds is a Beauty Box subscription service based in Malaysia. For RM35 a month, subscribers will receive 4 - 5 deluxe samples from high end and niche brands which will be delivered by courier free of charge to their doorsteps. Customers can also opt for a yearly subscription for RM420 and receive an additional box for free :)

The samples are housed in a pretty cardboard box that is rather sturdy. One can easily reuse the box to store random knick knacks! :D

Open sesame - the samples are wrapped up with matching silver paper and melon pink ribbon! How pretty! :D

Although I have read about beauty boxes for quite sometime already, this is my first time actually receiving such a box, and I'll have to admit that I was rather excited - much like a kid who can't wait to tear open the boxes underneath the Christmas tree to find out what was in them! :D And I know that you are too... so I shall not tease you any further! Lol! Lets go on ahead and open it up! :D

Tada! :D The August beauty box consists of:

1 full sized Empro Brown and Black mascara
1 full sized Skinz Infinite Youth Recall Serum
1 30ml Wella System Professional Repair Shampoo
1 30ml Wella System Professional Repair Mask
1 15ml Jurlique Balancing Day Care Cream
1 10ml Olive & Tebe Hand Moisturizing Cream
1 2ml Lanvin Jeanne Couture EDP
1 pc My Beauty Diary 2-Step Oceania Firming Pack

Along with the abovementioned goodies, the box also includes 2 vouchers - one each from Jurlique and Beaubelle:

Methinks that the August box is rather value for money, considering that the Skinz Infinite serum and Empro mascara are full sized items retailing at RM59.90 each. I'm also particularly excited to receive the Wella shampoo and hairmask as I may be going on a trip soon and they will definitely come in handy then! :) But the thing I really like and respect this company for is the fact that they contribute back to society by employing women from disadvantaged backgrounds to pack the boxes. How nice if all businesses do the same!

Personally I think that the RM35 price point is a reasonable price for the masses, but I were to be perfectly honest, I'm still a little hesitant to commit to a subscription, simply because I have quite abit of samples on hand currently to go through already! Also, another concern of mine is getting products that either do not suit my skin type or getting something that I know that I will not use that will eventually go to waste. I'm not a brand snob but admitedly there will be products and brands that excite me more than others. I guess this is the challenge for all Beauty Box services - maintaining the delicate balance between introducing new products to customers that they won't otherwise discover yet still be somewhat relevant to the customer! :)

Overall, I'm quite happy with my August box and I'm excited to find out what's in store for the subsequent months to come. If Fabulous Finds keeps churning out these value-for-money boxes, then I may just give in and treat myself to a subscription! ;)

What do you think about Beauty Boxes? Are you tempted to subscribe to them? :D

Jenn Asks: What is your favourite food? :D

Let's take a break from all things beauty and talk about my other love - FOOD! :D

I've always loved food - my husband is probably accustomed to my constant badgering for whatever that I was craving for at the moment! Hehehe! :P He usually gives in but sometimes he decides to be mean and will ask me to go on a diet instead! -____-

Although I love all kinds of cuisines and don't think I can ever pick a favourite out of the many there is out there, I'm a huge noodle fan! :D I love all kinds of noodles, no matter thin:

Or thick:

Fried:

Or soupy:

I love them all!! Hehehe!! :D I also love raw food (fruits and veggies included), such as these succulent pieces of salmon sashimi:

Or the delicate Tebleh Nayyeh, which I am really, REALLY craving for now:

I also love a huge bowl of soup - whether rich and thick:

Or a fiery bowl of Tom Yum Goong:

They comfort me and always remind me of home :)

When the mood strikes, I can be quite the carnivore sometimes! Whether it is tiny morsels of stone-grilled protein:

Or a HUGE platter of meat:

I will devour them all! Kakaka!! :D And although I'm not a huge dessert person, I love me a good cake:

or a huge tub of froyo! :D

Ok, this concludes a long, picture heavy post of simply saying "I LOVE FOOD and I CAN'T PICK A FAVOURITE"! Am so hungry now! T_T

How about you? What is your favourite food? :D

Product Review: Boots Caribbean Cocktail Barbados Shower Scrub

At a Glance:
Price: 200 baht (approximately RM20.83)
Weight: 200ml / 6.7 US Fl. Oz.
Made in: Thailand
Likes: Cleanses well, does not dry out the skin, lovely scent, cheap! :D
Gripes: Not scrubby enough, not available locally! T_T
Repurchase: Yes!! :D

Ingredients:

Product Description:

Transport yourself to the Caribbean with this shower scrub containing an exotic blend of ingredients. With Watermelon, Mango and scrub beads to exfoliate and revive your skin, leaving it soft, smooth and refreshed.

Texture & Scent:

This shower scrub is not as runny as the Aruba Dream one, but it's still pretty runny! :) This being a scrub has some scrubby bits in it, but not quite sufficient to thoroughly exfoliate the skin.

This is quite foamy so it spreads unto your skin easily! :D

This has a really lovely scent that I love! It's not quite watermelon or mango, but it's fruity and fresh at the same time! :D

Packaging:

This scrub comes in a plastic squeeze tube with a flip top cap which I find super practical to use in the shower! :)

The dispensing hole:

Price & Availability:
This shower gel is priced at 200 baht and is available at all Boots pharmacies in Thailand. It frequently goes on sale (sometimes even buy 1, free 1) so keep an eye out for those discounts! :D

My $0.02:

The first thing I make a beeline for whenever I'm in a Boots store in Bangkok is their shower gels, especially the Caribbean Cocktail ones. I've tried Aruba Dream, Barbados and Margarita Handshake so far - and all 3 from this range have the most AMAZING scent ever! :D

This scrub is no different. It smells divine and is such a joy to use after a long day out. It rinses clean and doesn't dry out the skin. And it goes on sale frequently - what's not to love?

The only critique I have for this shower scrub is that it is simply not scrubby enough to function as an actual body scrub. But it's still a wonderful shower gel and needless to say, I'll definitely repurchase! :)

Have you tried this shower scrub before? I've officially used up my Boots shower gel stash - wish that Boots is available in Malaysia so that I can buy more! :(

Product Review: NARS Blush in Exhibit A

At a Glance:
Price: US$28 / 1150 Baht
Weight: 4.8g / 0.16 Oz
Made in: Canada
Likes: GORGEOUS color, lasts the entire day!
Gripes: Not available locally, super pigmented - hence tricky to apply, rubber casing melts after a few years.
Repurchase: Maybe

Ingredients:

Product Description

NA

Pigmentation & Color:

This blush is described simply as a "matte red blush" on the NARS website. I think it leans a little orange, so I would describe it as a super bright tomato red.

My camera seems to always wash out colors... but believe me when I say that this blush is really bright and SUPER PIGMENTED! One swipe is all you need for BOTH cheeks with extra to go around! >.<

Finger swatch:

And this is me wearing this blush. I swiped the surface of the blush lightly with my MAC 187 duo fibre brush once, tapped off the excess, applied it to both cheeks, then further blended and sheered it out with the MAC 182 kabuki brush:

Featuring this blush on my cheeks, and the MAC Long Stem Rose Slimshine Lipstick on my lips! :)

Texture:
This blush is really finely milled, so it glides on beautifully.

Packaging:

This blush comes in the regular rubbery NARS compact which is prone to melting and become sticky in our humid whether :( Storing it out of the sun and using a dehumidifier may prolong its lifespan, but I wish they would change the packaging altogether to something more robust.

This blush comes with a plastic covering the surface of the blush when new. There's a mirror in there too for your convenience:

This is the box it comes in:

Time Test:
This product lasts more than 10 hours on my cheeks, which is AMAZING! :)

Price & Availability:
This beauty powder is priced at US$28 / 1150 baht, and is available at all NARS counters. Sadly, this is not available in Malaysia as of now! :(

Usage:
This blush is really versatile, so it can be used for all occasions - from work to dinners! ;)

My $0.02:

I've been dying to own this blush after hearing so many people rave about it, but the adorable MA at the Bangkok counter refused to sell it to me - he claims that it doesn't look nice on me. Unfazed, I returned to the counter again a year later, and lo and behold, I am now the proud owner of this baby! Hehehe!! :D

This blush looks scarily red in the pan... and I will not lie - it CAN look scarily red on your cheeks too. The first time I tried applying this blush, I underestimated the intensity of this blush and ended up with Chinese Opera cheeks. My husband saw that and christened this blush accordingly as the "Monkey Ass Blush" -____-

Oh well, we all learn from our mistakes! I find that one light swipe across the surface of the blush is sufficient for BOTH cheeks. The trick is to flick some of the excess off and sheer it out further with a kabuki brush after applying. Takes alot more work than the regular blush, but the end result is oh so pretty!! :D

In a nutshell, this is a beautiful blush that will last the entire day for me and I'm in love with the beautiful color! I may repurchase when I run out! :)

What do you think of this blush? Do you dare to use a bright red blush? Do let me know in the comments! :D
