MAC Colourizations Collection Review & Swatches + A Glimpse at the Cine-Matics Lip & Brush Bags! :D

This collection kinda slipped under my radar, just like the past (Suite Array, Digi Pops, the like)... guess eyeshadow duos / quads are just not my thing! Haha!! :D

Anyways i thought i'd swatch them anyways since i dropped by the store to pick up a few things. Most of the shadows featured here are ok, they're neither boring nor fascinating. Some have beautiful texture, but some are rather chalky. I do happen to like Double Feature 2 though, but then again greens are my thing so I'm biased! :D

What I like about them is that the shadow compacts are refillable once you're done with the current shadows! Sure makes it alot more compact to tote around than the usual quads! :)

Ok, lets go straight to the swatches! :D

Double Feature Shadow Compacts (US$25 / RM103):

Double Feature 4 - Deep forest green (Veluxe Pearl), Midtone ochre brown (Matte)
Double Feature 2 - Bright Lime (Veluxe Pearl), Frosty deep grey (Frost)
Double Feature 5 - Pale frosty peach (Frost), Dark brown with green pearl (Frost)
Double Feature 6 - Light grey taupe (Matte), Midtone bronze (Veluxe Pearl)

Double Feature 8 - Midtone orange (Frost), Deep navy (Satin)
Double Feature 1 - Bright yellow gold (Veluxe Pearl), Pink-up chrome purple (Frost)
Double Feature 7 - Bright fuschia (Frost), Cool black (Satin)
Double Feature 3 - Midtone teal (Matte), Deep chocolate (Satin)

Technakohl Liners (US$15 / RM65):

I absolutely LOVE the Technakohl liners! They're safe to use on the waterline (the non-shimmery ones anyways), they come in so many colors, and they're sooo easy to use! :) All liners here are from the permanent line. I'm kinda fed up with my current Stubborn Brown powerpoint because it keeps on sliding out of the pencil, so I'm definitely repurchasing my beloved Photogravure soon! :D

Jade Way - Pure emerald green with frost
Purple Dash - Intense aubergine
Auto-de-blu - Amethyst
Uniform - Deep khaki green with gold pearl
Photogravure - Soft black with brown undertone. Read my review here.
Graphblack - Rich graphic black

Lip (US$38 / RM165) and Brush (US$49.50 / RM250) Bags:

Once again, I feel quite "meh" about these. The neat thing is that you get a free bag with every set. I'll have to say that i'm rather intrigued with the colorful brushes though... they will look pretty sitting on your dresser! :D

It's A Girl:
Innocence Beware Lipstick - Light yellow pink (Cremesheen). This is repromoted from last year's Venomous Villains collection
It's a Girl Dazzleglass Creme - Light yellow pink with multi pearlized pigments.
Sublime Couture Cremestick Liner - Pink caramel fusion. This is a permanent product.

Overnight Sensation:
Pilow Talk Lipstick - Midtone rosy nude (Cremesheen)
Overnight Sensation Dazzleglass Creme - Warm nude with silver pearlizes pigments
Creamola Cremestick Liner - Soft tan (permanent)

Nude Scene:
Nude Scene Lipstick - Yellow nude with old pearlized pigments (Cremesheen)
Lighty Prancing Dazzleglass Creme - Light peach with gold pearlized pigments. This is a repromote from last year's Holiday color story.
Summerfruit Cremestick Liner - Pale coral (permanent)

Real Drama:
Real Drama Lipstick - Deep blue pink (Cremesheen)
Scenestealer Dazzleglass Creme - Midtone rosy nude with with silver pearlizes pigments
Siftwood Cremestick Liner - Coral brown (permanent)

Face Brushes - 168SE, 187SE, 190SE, 194SE
All Over Brushes - 129SE, 219SE, 224SE, 227SE, 266SE

Makeup Lessons (US$49.50 / RM250):

This collection features two "makeup lessons", which are essentially a palette containing 3 eyeshadows that compliment each other (all permanent shades), two brushes, an eyeliner and a mascara. Methinks that this is a great travelling kit! :D

Smoky Black:
Eyeshadows - Carbon (Matte), Ambience (Satin), Bisque (Matte)
Technakohl Liner - Graphblack
Brushes - 212SE, 275SE
Mascara - Zoomlash in Zoomblack (Mini)

Smoky Brown:
Eyeshadows - Sable (Velvet), Showstopper (Matte), Retrospeck (Lustre)
Technakohl Liner - Photogravure
Brushes - 212SE, 275SE
Mascara - Zoomlash in Zoomblack (Mini)

That's all for this collection. What do you think about this? :D

Product Review: Daiso Ellefar Flat Eyebrow B Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown

At a Glance:
Price: RM5 (US$1.67)
Weight: 0.2g
Made in: China
Likes: Super cheap, easy to use, lovely natural color
Gripes: Hard to apply and goes on patchy due to its waxy texture if not warmed, strong waxy scent
Repurchase: No

Product Description

Pigmentation & Color:

This eyebrow pencil is a matte dark taupey brown. It is not very pigmented so it requires a few swipes before it shows up. I'm not too fussed by this though, cuz it means that the end result is more natural :)

Skin swatch

On my brows:

Picture on the left is my naked brows

Texture & Scent:
This eyebrow pencil is VERY waxy, hence it is a little hard to apply at the beginning, and it goes on patchy (as you can see from my swatch and brow pics above). It gets better after a few strokes though, so you may want to warm the tip against your arm before applying this to your brows.

This has a VERY STRONG waxy scent, not unlike those cheapo crayons we used when we were young! lol! Sadly, the scent remains for quite sometime before it dissipates! :(

This eyebrow pencil comes in pen form with a twist up mechanism, so no sharpening is required. The tips is broader than the usual eyebrow pencils:

At the other end of this pencil comes a free lash comb, which is great! :D

You get about an inch of product in each tube:

The packaging it came in:

Time Test:
This one about 7 hours on my brows before it starts to fade.

Price & Availability:
This brow pencil is priced at RM5 and should be available at most Daiso stores.

My $0.02:

As some of you already know from my Facebook Page, I "sapu-ed" (swept) home 3 different brow pencils from Daiso awhile ago, after trying out one and loving it! :D

Out of the 3 i got, i had the highest hopes for this one because I've always heard about how easy flat brow pencils are to use! :D Well, I can't fault this one alright - it is indeed super easy to use! And the wide surface makes application such a breeze! :D

The color is perfect for my brows - it blends right in! :) However, I won't lie and say that the end result will be like that without additional effort. Because of how waxy this pencil is, i find that i have to warm it up by swiping it several times on my arm first before applying to get an even result, otherwise it'll just go on lumpy! :(

I also don't like how the waxy scent is soooo overpowering! I can still smell it 2 hours later, and it's quite unpleasant! >.<

That being said, I do think that this is not a bad brow pencil. In fact if they improve on the scent factor it may actually become one of my favourite brow pencils because of how natural it looks on my brows. Oh well, you can't have everything I guess!

Wanna know how this compares against the one i got earlier?

Both are similar twist up "automatic" brow pencils. Although both are called "Dark Brown", I find that this one suits my brows better:

Don't know why the swatches look so patchy here! It looks perfectly fine on my arm! >.<

As you can see from the swatch above, the previous one (left) leans a little chocolate brown, while this one is more taupe. Texture wise, the former is definitely smoother and less waxy. Both are priced at RM5 and you get a free brow comb with both. And oh, the former doesn't smell! :P

So in a nutshell, yes, I still prefer the old one, though this one is a better match in terms of color for me! :)

Have you tried any Daiso Brow Pencils before? :D

Product Review: The Face Shop Vita E Mask Sheet

At a Glance:
Price: RM6.90 (approx. US$2.30)
Weight: 23ml / 0.67 Fl. Oz.
Made in: Korea
Likes: Moisturizes and brightens skin well, essence absorbs into skin quickly, no sticky after feel! :D
Gripes: Contains alcohol! :(
Repurchase: No

Phytolex Nanoliposome is a composite of Ceramide and natural plant extracts of Mung Bean, White Birch and Rumex Crispus L.

Texture & Scent:
Like the rest of the mask from this range, this mask is dripping wet fresh out of the pack! I had to squeeze some out into the packet to prevent it from dripping all over! :D Once the mask is removed, the essence sinks right in without leaving any sticky feeling on my face! Nice! :D

This one has a fresh floral scent.

This mask is individually packed into their respective foil packs and is sold by the piece. This one is a little odd - unlike the rest of the mask sheets from this range, the mouth opening for this one is abit too big for me:

Time Test:
15-20 minutes is all you need! :D

Price & Availability:
This mask is priced at RM6.90 each and is available at all The Face Shop outlets.

My $0.02:

By now I'm convinced that all masks from this range as basically the same thing with different names and fragrances! Haha!! :D

Like the others, this one brightens and moisturizes quite well, and i like that it doesn't leave a sticky film on my face after that.

This is how i look after using this mask:

The only thing i don't like about this mask is that it contains alcohol (old news, lol!). Hence, I won't be repurchasing (which is a shame because I happen to really like the ones from this range :( )

Product Review: MAC Semi Precious Rose Quartz Mineralize Skinfinish

At a Glance:
Price: US$28 / RM115
Weight: 6.5 g / 0.22 US oz
Made in: Italy
Likes: Versatile, beautiful colors, smooth texture
Gripes: Glittery, limited edition
Repurchase: Yes!

Product Description

Taken from their website:

A luxurious velvet-soft powder with high-frost metallic finish. Smoothes on: adds buffed-up highlights to cheeks, or an overall ultra-deluxe polish to the face

Pigmentation & Color:

This MSF is surprisingly darker in real life than in pictures I've seen prior to its launch, but it's a good surprise because it means that it's pigmented enough to be used as a blush :)

Color description on the website:

Base: Rosy Pink.
Innercircle: Silver, Lime, White pink, Copper

This MSF is a little too glittery for my preference, but lightly blowing or tapping the glitters away before applying it onto your cheek does help tone down the bling factor and makes it a little more wearable during the day.

Pigmentation wise it is pretty pigmented, one swipe is all it takes for the color to show up on my skin! :D

Finger swatch:

From left: Outer color, marbled middle color, both together

I find it intriguing that although the one i had have minimal broze veinings in the marblelized middle, the middle swatch turned out to be so dark! >.< Thankfully when both color are mixed together, the peachiness kinda cancels out any muddiness, so i guess its ok? lol! :P

Anyhooo this is me wearing this blush, applied once with a skunk brush:

Featuring the MAC Easy Lounger lipglass from the To the Beach collection on my lips. Ugly pimples censored for your mental wellbeing. lol!

One swipe gives a lovely flush to my NW20 skin, me loves! :D

Although this MSF is quite glittery, it is surprisingly smooth in terms of texture, so no worries! :D

This MSF comes in the usual flip top compact with a clear front. As with all MSFs i don't recommend carry it around in your handbag because it is quite fragile.

The box it came in:

Time Test:
This blush lasts quite a loong time on my cheeks - the entire day with no touchups! :D

Price & Availability:
This MSF is priced at RM115 each, and is available at all MAC stores as well as their website. This is limited edition though, and I *think* it should be sold out by now! >.<

This MSF looks stunning both on its own or when layered over another blush! :)

My $0.02:

When I first saw this MSF in person, I was taken aback by how glittery it is! I then brought it home with me, thinking that it's gonna be another of those "collectibles" in my drybox that will remain untouched for the rest of their lives with me! Lol! :D Then one day, on a whim I just decided to give it a go, and am pleasantly surprised at how much I love it! :D

I have been wearing it alot since! The color is beautiful, the texture is beautiful, and it's beautiful to look at in the pan! Hehehe!! :D

Don't get me wrong, i still think that it's quite shimmery after tapping some of the glitter off, but it's the shimmers gives it dimension and keeps it from looking too flat, so i can actually skip the highlighter! :D

All in all methinks that this is a beautiful blush / highlighter in one, and I don't regret bringing this home with me! :D

Back! :D

I had an amaaaaaaazing 4 days at Redang Island last weekend, and I definitely left my heart there!

From the super clear waters:

To the powdery soft white sand:

ps: the Starry Night nail polish from The Body Shop rocks... its still largely intact on my toes at the end of my holiday! :D

To the no-so-great sunrise:

To the scary about-to-fall-off-rock right beside the restaurant:

To the obese squirrel who begs for food all the time:

All these will remain in my heart and mind... until my next trip there (fingers crossed that it'll be soon! :D)! Ok, regular transmission will resume after this post, so stay tuned! :)

Have you been to Redang before? :D

Friday, August 5, 2011

By the time you're reading this, I'm probably frolicking in the beautiful crystal clear waters of an island not-quite-so-far-away! Haha!! :D

So please bear with my absence... I'll be back next week! :D

On another note, I notice how my skin is usually super parched after soaking in the sea and sun, so here's what I packed for the trip:

Cleanser: MAC Cleanse Off Oil to clean off super high SPF sunblock! :D
Toner: Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Lotion
Whitening Treatments: Estee Lauder CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Full Spectrum Brightening Essence & Lancome Blanc Expert GN-White Spot Eraser to prevent freckles
Sheet Masks: My Beauty Diary Aloe Mask, Neutrogena Deep Hydrating Mask, My Beauty Diary White Peony Tea Mask
Lipbalm: Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 SPF 4
Sunblock: Sunplay SPF130 PA+++ Super Block
Aftersun: Fruit of the Earth 100% Aloe Vera Gel (super refreshing - gonna stash it in the fridge! :D)
Body Lotion: Rosken Skin Repair Dry Skin Cream

With these, hopefully this time my skin won't be "chao tar" (charred) - you know the super dry, scaly feeling you get on your skin after a whole day under the sun? :D I kinda miss getting a gorgeous tan though, so maybe i'll go sunbathe for awhile (hey, i'm on holiday, stop nagging me already! hahaha!! :P). The question is, will one look super weird with a fair face but tanned body? Knowing myself and my paranoia regarding my freckles increasing in number, I'll probably be lying under the sun with a towel over my face or something! Hahaha!! XD

Oh yeah, I've decided to bring the Loreal Night Repair Essence along with me for a test drive, so I'll let you know what i think about it when i'm back ya!

I'm not liking this currently, but lets see if that'll change anytime soon! :D

Ok I know this post is all over the place (this is what you get when you draft posts in the middle of the night), so i'll shuddap now. See you next week and have a wonderful weekend yeah! :D

Product Review: MAC Lipstick in Hibiscus

At a Glance:
Price: US$15.50 / RM69
Weight: 3g / 0.10 US Oz.
Made in: Canada
Likes: Beautiful color, doesn't feel drying on the lips! :)
Gripes: Limited edition, not a fan of the packaging, can make teeth look yellow! >.<
Repurchase: Yes, if i ever run out! :D

Product Description

Surf-cultured. Shine-right. Boldly floral sun-bright or delicately nude-y, these lipsticks wear their summer stripes with the cool grace of a real surfer dude. Add their white casing and there's no doubt - summer starts here.... Limited edition

Pigmentation & Color:

This shade is described as a bright orange coral on the website, and I would say that that is accurate. You pretty much are getting the same color as the one in the tube with skin swatches, but as with all lipsticks the color might vary depending on your lip pigmentation and complexion. Pigmentation wise this lipstick offers medium opacity with one layer, but with two it gives full coverage :)

And on my lips:

This being a Cremesheen lipstick applies beautifully, and its opacity can definitely be built up. I like how this isn't drying too! :)

This lipstick comes in the regular twist up tube with a screw off cap. This being from the Surf, Baby! collection has a surfboard print on it (that I don't really like! >.<)

The box it came in:

Time Test:
This lipstick lasts about 4 hours on my lips before it fades.

Price & Availability:
This lipstick is a little more expensive than the usual MAC lipstick because it is "special packaging". Each lippie goes for RM69 / US$15.50. This limited edition lipstick is available at all MAC stores, but should be gone by now! >.<

My $0.02:

If you have been reading my blog long enough, you'd probably realize that I'm terrified of bright lippies. I have never worn one out before though I've done a few looks with one. Well, that is *slowly* changing now - I'm definitely starting to warm up to brighter lip colors, but definitely am still not at the level where my ladies Paris B and Yani are rocking the red lips!

Well I figure that if i were to apply a very very very sheer layer of this lippie, it would be a good start. Baby steps, you know? Haha!

And you know what? I'm really digging it! The sheered out version anyways! :D I have been wearing this alot since! :D

Texture wise, this is one of the better ones from MAC, understandably because it's a Cremesheen. It's creamy, doesn't feel all drying yet it lasts a decent amount of time (about 4 hours). Color wise it is quite versatile, but i find that it makes my teeth appear yellower (especially at full opacity)! >.<

Ok enough blabla, here're a few pictures for you to see for yourself! :D

This is the sheeerrr version (a little pinky cuz I paired it with my beloved Baby Sparks Dazzleglass:

MAC Dainty Mineralize Blush for blushing, MAC Eversun Beauty Powder Blush for contouring and NARS Nico for highlighting :)

And this is 2 layers on my lips:

Featuring this lippie on my lips and the MAC Semi Precious Rose Quartz from the Semi Precious collection on my cheeks (review coming up soon - I'm on a rolllllll as you can tell!)! :D

As you probably can tell, I won't be wearing that out anytime soon!

Wanna know why was I wearing a cap in the picture above? The next pic is pretty self explanatory:

Lol! Thats all for this review! Do you dare to wear bright lipsticks? :D
